Can I Help You? The Future of Socially Assistive Robots in Healthcare
Date & Time: Monday, April 9, 2018 at 1:00PM ET
Speaker: Dr. Goldie Nejat, Professor, University of Toronto, Mechanical and Industrial Engineering
Description: With a low growth rate and an aging population, Canada will soon need intelligent robots to manage the increasing demands for healthcare. Dr. Nejat’s lab develops autonomous, human-like robots (….Brian, Tangy and Casper…) to assist the elderly and those suffering from dementia. These robots are designed to give care customized to the individual. They provide cognitive and social interventions, facilitate recreational activities and assist with activities of daily living. They interact using natural speech, facial expressions, gestures and body language. Such robotic technology has the potential to significantly improve the quality of life for patients, reduce the stress and fatigue of caregivers; and positively transform the global healthcare system.
