Andrew Downes
Major General (retired) Andrew Downes is a Veteran with 31 years of military service in multiple clinical, administrative and leadership roles. At retirement in 2020, he was the Surgeon General and Commander of the Canadian Forces Health Services Group. He is a Family Physician and Canadian Certified Physician Executive.
Dr. Downes has degrees in science and medicine from the University of Manitoba, where he also completed his Family Medicine residency. He has a Master of Public Health from the University of Texas, and he also undertook an Aerospace Medicine residency with the US Air Force. Andrew is a Fellow of the College of Family Physicians, an honorary Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and an Officer of the Order of Military Merit.
