Dr. Alan Mackworth
Dr. Alan Mackworth, widely known for his accomplishments in the field of artificial intelligence, has received the inaugural AGE-WELL Honorary Fellow Award.
The award is in recognition of Dr. Mackworth’s long term and substantial contributions to research in the field of aging and technology, as well as his significant contribution towards the mission and vision of AGE-WELL.
A Professor Emeritus of Computer Science at the University of British Columbia (UBC), Dr. Mackworth is the former chair of AGE-WELL’s International Scientific Advisory Committee and was a member of AGE-WELL’s Board of Directors from 2015 to 2018.
His research has focused on constraint-based artificial intelligence with application in vision, robotics, situated agents, assistive technology and sustainability. As the founding director of the Laboratory for Computational Intelligence at UBC, Dr. Mackworth has played a leading role in establishing one of Canada’s and, indeed, the world’s leading AI groups.
Over his career, Dr. Mackworth has received the ITAC/NSERC Award for Academic Excellence, the Killam Research Prize, the Artificial Intelligence Journal Classic Paper Award, the CSCSI Distinguished Service Award, the Association for Constraint Programming Award for Research Excellence and the Lifetime Achievement Award of the Canadian AI Association. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada and the Association for the Advancement of AI.

Alan Mackworth
Alan Mackworth, bien connu pour ses réalisations dans le domaine de l’intelligence artificielle, a reçu la première bourse honorifique AGE-WELL.
Cette dernière vise à reconnaître les contributions importantes et durables de M. Mackworth à la recherche dans le domaine du vieillissement et de la technologie, ainsi que son précieux apport à la mission et à la vision d’AGE-WELL.
Professeur émérite en informatique à l’Université de la Colombie-Britannique (UBC), M. Mackworth a été président du Comité consultatif scientifique international d’AGE-WELL et membre du conseil d’administration de l’organisme de 2015 à 2018.
Ses recherches ont principalement porté sur l’intelligence artificielle orientée-contraintes appliquée à la vision, à la robotique, aux agents situés, à la technologie d’assistance et à la durabilité. En tant que directeur fondateur du laboratoire d’intelligence computationnelle à UBC, M. Mackworth a joué un rôle de premier plan dans la création de l’un des plus importants groupes d’intelligence artificielle au Canada et même dans le monde.
Au cours de sa carrière, M. Mackworth a reçu le prix de l’excellence universitaire de l’ACTI/CRSNG, le prix de recherche Killam, le prix de l’article classique de la revue Artificial Intelligence, le prix de reconnaissance pour services exceptionnels de la SCEIO, le prix d’excellence en recherche de l’Association for Constraint Programming et le Prix d’excellence pour l’ensemble des réalisations de l’Association pour l’intelligence artificielle au Canada. Il est membre de la Société royale du Canada et de l’Association for the Advancement of AI.
