Caron Leid, PhD

Caron Leid is a mental health professional, educator, and internationally recognized caregiver advocate. She spent nearly two decades as the primary caregiver for her mother, who lived with Alzheimer’s disease. Her lived experience continues to inform her clinical work and national advocacy.

She holds a PhD in Education, with research focused on palliative care and the long-term impact of Alzheimer’s caregiving. Caron is the author of five books, including Alzheimer’s: What They Forget to Tell You, and is a sought-after speaker on caregiving, grief, and dementia-related topics. Her work has reached audiences across Canada, the U.S., and the Caribbean.

Licensed with the Ontario Association of Mental Health Professionals, Caron has worked in counseling since 2003. She brings expertise in psychotherapy, adult education, grief and hospice care, compassion fatigue, and virtual therapy. She also serves on multiple patient engagement panels, bringing both academic and lived experience to the development of dementia and caregiver-informed policy.
