In March 2017, HackerNest, a nonprofit that builds local tech communities around the world, is producing the world’s foremost hackathon dedicated to creating life-improving products to help those living with dementia and their caregivers.
Presented by Facebook, championed by the UK and Canadian governments, and hosted at the MaRS Discovery District in Toronto, this epic 30-hour hackathon brings hundreds of world-class developers, designers, clinicians, and others motivated by the cause together to form teams and ‘hack’ innovative products in the field of dementia. Our mission isn’t just to raise awareness, it’s to produce tangible, market-viable solutions to help mitigate its many challenges. Dementia is an overwhelming disease that, once experienced, makes you feel compelled to take action.
DementiaHack is structured around four ‘challenge sets’, or beneficiary groups, that participants can build a product for:
- Diagnosed individuals
- Family caregivers
- Institutional caregivers/clinicians
