Jessica Percy Campbell

I am a PhD candidate and sessional instructor in the Political Science department at the University of Victoria. I am working under the supervision of Dr. Colin Bennett. My research focuses on how older adults (65+) use smart speakers such as Google Home and Amazon Echo (Alexa) for aging in place. More specifically, my work is about the privacy and surveillance implications of repurposing generalized smart home technologies as care tools for older adults. What happens when technology becomes easier to use for most, but privacy controls remain difficult to access? How can privacy policies better protect user data?
