Dr. Rafik Goubran, P.Eng., FIEEE, FCAE, is a leading expert in sensors and data analytics. He is Vice President (Research and International) and Chancellor’s Professor at Carleton University since 2017. Prior to assuming this role, Dr. Goubran served as Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Design at Carleton University for over 10 years and as Chair of the Department for Systems and Computer Engineeering for 8 years.
Dr. Goubran’s research expertise is sensors applications, smart homes, patient monitoring and data analytics. He co-leads several multi-disciplinary research programs on the design of smart environments for the independent living of seniors, and on vital sign monitoring. Dr. Goubran has co-supervised 97 graduate students and co-authored over 325 peer-reviewed publications and 10 patents.
Dr. Goubran is a Life Fellow of the IEEE, a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering, a member of the Association of Professional Engineers of Ontario, and an affiliate investigator with the Bruyère Research Institute.
